Track and Field

Winter Track Information

Our Vision:  We play track and field to challenge ourselves
and to work together as a team to realize our greatest success.

Dear Parents and Athletes,

Many of us coaches and athletes feel the growing excitement of the approaching track and field season.  Although we do not officially start until March 3, many athletes have started winter conditioning.   We invite you to join us, even those of you new to Grant Track and Field.

WINTER CONDITIONING:

“Do not let what you can not do interfere with what you can do.”
– John Wooden, renowned UCLA basketball coach.

"Don't dream of winning, train for it!" — Mo Farah, Olympic distance runner

Until March 3rd, we encourage athletes  to commit to a regular workout rhythm of 3+ days per week.  Building your strength, speed and mobility through the pre-season lays a foundation for success.  Furthermore, the athleticism you gain will help your performance in every other sport.  The athletes who have seen the greatest growth and improvement are those who have committed to the pre-season conditioning.  We want you to be in that group.  Consider joining one or more of the training groups; all practices begin at 3:50 p.m.

Sprinters, Hurdlers, Jumpers:
Monday through Thursday.
Mondays and Wednesdays end at 6 in the weight room.  Tuesdays and Wednesdays end at 5:30.
We usually meet on the track near the containers (unless it's really raining in which case we meet under the bike rack)

Distance Runners:
Monday, Wednesday & Thursday until 5:30 or later. We usually meet in the hallway outside room 26.

Javelin Throwers:
Tuesdays.  Meet at the containers on the track.

Discus and Shot Put:
Thursdays.  Meet at the containers on the track.

Everyone:
  • Come dressed and ready to train. Wear sweatpants, sweatshirts, hats and gloves. Dress warm.  You can peel off layers after the warm up. No one comes in just shorts or t-shirts.
  • Bring Water.
  • Those of you new to T&F:  We realize you may not yet know which event group to join.  Talk to me, and we can decide the best place for you to join.
  • To practice, you need a physical within the last two years and a completed registration form:  https://forms.gle/yWmaf1MaoFKpogbt6  (this registration is only for winter conditioning).

Message from Coach

Athletes & Parents,

We are excited to launch our 2024 Generals Track and Field season!  Although we do not officially begin until February 26, we already have a huge group participating in winter conditioning.  We are excited to see such dedication from so many athletes.   We invite you to join us, even those of you new to Grant Track and Field.

We encourage a regular workout rhythm of at least 3 days per week.  Building your strength and speed and mobility through the pre season makes a massive difference in your capacity when we officially begin our season.  Furthermore, the athleticism you gain will help your performance in every other sport.  The athletes who have seen the greatest growth and improvement are those who have committed to the pre-season conditioning.  We want you to be in that group.

We hold workouts 4 days per week, Monday through Thursday starting at 3:50 p.m.

Mondays and Thursdays we typically end at 6.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays we usually end at 5:30 p.m.

Join the Team:  to practice, you need a physical within the last two years and completed online forms.  Sing up on FamilyID.   Email me with any questions.

Those of you new to T&F:  We realize you may not yet know which event group to join.  Talk to me and we can decide the best place for you to join.
