Letter from Athletic Director

Hello Grant Families,

Portland Public Schools and the Portland Interscholastic League are excited to announce that we will begin serving students in the Portland area as part of OSAA Season 1. Programming will follow all OSAAOHA, and PPS guidelines to ensure a safe environment for all students and coaches. This is a voluntary opportunity, and in accordance with the OSAA, teams will not be formed based on a student’s participation during the OSAA Season 1. In an effort to best support students and programming, our first phase of activities will only be held outdoors. Practices will be managed by PPS staff, which includes certified coaches, the athletic trainer, security services, and me (athletic director). Exact days and times for each practice will depend on the program.

Physical activity has been shown to have a strong and positive influence on the social and emotional well-being of students. Students will be allowed to participate in sport-specific pods with no more than 25 students per pod. Each pod will:

  • be led by a certified Grant coach,
  • meet between one and three times a week,
  • lock their roster each week to avoid cross-contact among student groups,
  • be spaced across Grant campus to ensure proper spacing.

Information about signing up:

  • Students may select more than one sport to participate in during Season 1.
  • Students may only participate in one pod per day. Coaches and the student can work together in case of a schedule conflict if a student wants to participate in multiple sports. Not all sports teams will offer practice pods. If you would like to contact a specific coach, contact information can be found here:
  • All students MUST have an up to date physical exam form on the first day they are scheduled to participate.
  • All students MUST be registered in FamilyID. If they want to participate next week, they must be in FamilyID by Monday, October 19 at 8 AM.
  • All families MUST be registered in Healthy Roster (registration info will be sent to you once you're in FamilyID).
  • Students and parents will receive an email on Monday, October 19 with the days and times for practices that week, what to bring, and outline the health and safety protocols.
  • Questions about registrations and physical exams can be directed to Assistant AD Erin Cole (
  • For FamilyID technical support, please email or call 1-781-205-2800. Unfortunately Grant Athletics cannot help you reset your password.

8/5/20 - OSAA adopts NEW 2020-2021 School Activities Calendar

"The OSAA’s new calendar provides for three distinct seasons from late December to late June with limited overlap between seasons. Traditional Winter activities will take place in January and February (Season 2), followed by Fall activities in March and April (Season 3), with Spring activities occurring in May and June (Season 4). Each season will feature an equitable 7-week regular season, with adjusted contest limitations, followed by an OSAA Culminating Week. Specific plans for culminating week events will be developed in conjunction with member schools in the coming months in alignment with large group gathering guidelines issued by the state."
