John Beck returns as Head Football Coach at Grant High School

John Beck returns as the Head Football Coach at Grant High School after stepping away from the same position in 2022. During his first tenure as the head football coach, Beck was 16-2 in PIL play earning a share of the league title three times and one outright league title.

Coach Beck brings an extensive background in not only football, but high school coaching where he has served student-athletes in Softball, Track and Field, and Wrestling during his stops at Hermiston, Barlow, North Medford, Lakeridge, and Crater High Schools. A native Oregonian, John attended Woodburn High School where he was a staple on their Football, Wrestling, and Baseball teams. He then attended Southern Oregon University where he played football.

Coach Beck currently teaches in the Grant Physical Education department and is looking forward to continuing to build relationships with our students both on the field and in the classroom. John understands the history and tradition of Grant Football and is looking forward to working with the community and alumni to strengthen what those who’ve come before have built for the future Generals.

Grant High School names Miranda Tamayo as its’ new Head Softball Coach

We are excited to announce the hiring of Miranda Tamayo as the Head Softball Coach at Grant High School. Miranda is a southern California native. She grew up playing travel softball and was a four-year varsity letterman at Mater Dei High School. At Mater Dei she earned all league and pitcher of the year in her conference. Her high school success earned her the opportunity to spend four years as a student-athlete on the Softball team at Indiana University, where she earned a Bachelors in English. From there, Miranda went on to complete one more year as a student-athlete and one year as a graduate assistant, while earning her Masters in Education from the University of Indianapolis.

Tamayo then spent five years teaching high school English in Washington D.C., California, and Oregon. During those five years, she was both an assistant and head coach, as well as a private lessons instructor. Currently, Miranda is a copywriter for an education technology company.

New to Portland, Miranda is excited to integrate into the community, make a positive impact, and give back to the next generation through the sport that gave her so much.

Please welcome Miranda Tamayo, Head Softball Coach at Grant High School.
