2023 Try-Out Information

Hello Generals Community,

Winter Sports are set to begin on Monday November 13th, 2023.  During the winter season, we offer Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball, Boys Wrestling, Girls Wrestling, Girls Swimming, and Boys Swimming. 

In order to be able to participate in practice or try-outs on Monday, you must be signed up through our sports registration platform, FamilyID (also known as Arbiter Sports), and have a valid sports physical uploaded into your registration. Physicals are good for 2 years.  Once registered, you will receive an email from the Athletic office stating whether your registration is approved or not approved. For additional information on athletic clearance, please check the Athletic website www.grantathletics.com.

Please reach out to your head coach for more information about try-out and practice times, as well as locations for the week of November 13th.

Generals Competing at State this Spring

The Generals qualified 4 participants from the PIL Championships to the State Championships February 24th and 25th at Memorial Coliseum.
  • Olin Waxler - 113lb Runner-Up
  • Trey Wasson - 126lb
  • Kai Tsugawa - 145lb City Champion
  • Benson Deibele - 285lb City Champion

Grant High School names Warren McPherson as its next Head Wrestling Coach. 

Grant High School names Warren McPherson as its next Head Wrestling Coach. 
 
We are excited to announce the hiring of Warren McPherson as the Head Wrestling Coach at Grant High School. Warren is originally from Hillsboro, Oregon, where he attended Hillsboro High, he was a two time Oregon state champion wrestler in 1993 and 1995, and state runner-up in 1994.  At the collegiate level, Warren wrestled at Stanford University where he was an NCAA Qualifier and team captain in 2000.  He graduated from Stanford with a B.A. in English with a minor in Political Science. 
 
McPherson started coaching as an assistant at Stanford in 2000.  He has also held assistant coaching roles at Hillsboro High School, Aurora Hinkley in Colorado, and Roosevelt High School.  In addition to his coaching, he has years of experience as a director of youth camps at both Stanford and Kids at Play which he was the founder of.  Warren also has worked within our Grant Youth Wrestling Cluster. 
 
Warren and his family are excited to work within the Grant community and look forward to building on the foundation of Grant Wrestling while strengthening partnerships within the wrestling community and our youth programs both in the middle and elementary schools.

Wresting Starts November 14th

Registration is now open for the 2022-2023 winter sports season.  Please click the clearance tab and follow all of the instructions to be cleared to participate in try-outs on November 15th! All students must be signed up on FamilyID with a current sports physical.

Practice will take place in the wresting room G003 after school from 4:00pm -6:00pm
